Access your phone/device files with common softwares: MAC OS Finder, File Explorer, ES Explorer, VLC, Kodi etc. LAN Drive is a powerfull and easy SMB server - also known as SAMBA server - designed for filesharing. LAN drive is also a powerfull client to connect to SMB servers, and view/copy/paste files easily. The Samba VPN client is a program that allows you to authenticate with the University to establish a SSL encrypted tunnel that virtually places your computer inside the University network. This type of network connection is called VPN - Virtual Private Network. Mac OS X 10.4 and later on Intel and PowerPC architectures 32bit Linux with.

Below are suggested parameters to use in smb.conf file of the Samba server to improve operability with Mac OS X clients.Note that some parameters may not work with your version of Samba - read the smb.conf and vfs_fruit man pages (on Linux) for your system.Other than those shown in the [TimeMachineBackup] share below, I recommend you include all parameters in the [Global] section of smb.conf. For ease of copy > paste, a clean smb.conf section is included at the bottom of this page.

How to install SMBUp. Installing SMBUp is pretty simple, however configuration got me confused initially. SMBUp is a free application that replaces the Apple SMB implementation with the Open Source Samba version. I have tested this Mac OS X SMB Fix under Yosemite 10.10.2, with XMBC/Kodi as a client on an Android device, and it works great!

Apple extensions ('AAPL') run under SMB2/3 protocol, make that the minimum (probably shouldn't be running SMB1 anyway..) - defaults to SMB2_2 in Samba 4.11+:

Premiere elements for mac

Apple extensions require support for extended attributes(xattr) - defaults to yes in Samba 4.9+:

Load in modules (order is critical!) and enable AAPL extensions:

How to store OS X metadata:

For additional setting see the manpage vfs_fruit.

Server icon in Finder (added in Samba 4.5):

For Spotlight backend indexing using Elastisearch (added in Samba 4.12):

See smb.conf for 4.12 for other Elastisearch parameters.Gnome tracker is still available (= tracker) or no indexing (= noindex), the default.

For Time Machine backup share (added in Samba 4.8):

I have attempted reinstalling PyDev (many times), restarting Eclipse, restarting my Mac, and have searched for any problems similar to mine, but have come up with nothing. I have Python 3.3 installed, and also Python 2.6 (installed 2.6 when a guide told me 2.6 is the build used by the project). Need to use older Eclipse/Java/Python. If you need to use an older version of Eclipse/Java/Python, below is the latest PyDev version to be used based on your requisites. Eclipse 4.5, Java 8: PyDev 5.2.0; Eclipse 3.8, Java 7: PyDev 4.5.5; Eclipse 3.x, Java 6: PyDev 2.8.2; Python 2.5 or older: PyDev 5.5.0. PyDev is a plugin that enables Eclipse to be used as a Python IDE (supporting also Jython and IronPython). It uses advanced type inference techniques which allow it to provide things such as code completion and code analysis, besides providing a debugger, interactive console, refactoring, tokens browser, django integration, etc. From the Eclipse main menu choose Window / Preferences. (For the Mac choose Eclipse / Preferences). This brings up the Preferences dialog box. Choose Pydev / Interpreter - Python: The Quick Auto-Config may set Eclipse up the way you want it, but only if some version of Python 3 is selected. If no version of Python is found, follow the next steps. Click Eclipse (to the right of Apple logo on the far left of the top tool bar), and then click Preferences in its pull-down menu, as shown below. Drill down to select the interpreter: Disclose PyDev by clicking the triangle in front of PyDev or double-clicking PyDev (after the triangle). Eclipse pydev for mac.

As far as I know, testparm will not validate vfs_fruit parameters. (my server runs an old version of Samba :-), but after you have built your smb.conf, you can check for errors anyway with #: testparm or #: testparm -v (which will give you the defaults as well.

Here is the smb.conf code - NOTE - THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE SMB.CONF!!!

From Finder, connect to your Samba server using 'smb://User@Server'.Note that TM backups over smb may now be possible with your server.Other Mac models can be found in '/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Info.plist'. Use 'Quick Look', Xcode or plutil to view or convert plist.
